Kaze no Yukue, by Gym (Jinb): Jinb (also spelled “Jimu”) uses the pen name Gym, which clearly is a homophone for his Japanese name. The official name for this limited edition is Kaze no Yukue and Other Stories.” Gym is a highly successful advertiing designer and began producing illustrations for Japanese homoerotic magazines in the 1970s and 80s. His work was extremely popular but career pressures forced him to cease drawing homoerotic illustions for a few years.
He returned to homoerotic art in the 1990s and G-Men publications first published the story manga presented here in 1998. But shabby treatment by magazine publishers caused Gym to withdraw entirely from publishing homoerotic art.
This limited collector’s edition was not published by G-Men’s house. It was done by Furukawa Books. At 60, Gym remains actively engaged in his career but no longer produces homoerotic art for publication.
The title of this collection would seem to indicate the six stories are stand-alones. Yet the same characters appear in each story and there is a clear progression of plot running through all the stories.
The details of the story line remain hidden in the Japanese language until someone is kind enough to translate or provide a summary of the plot. It is clearly about two men, lovers, death, and how they meet this destructive feature of life. Rather than burden you with my “read” of the story, I invite you to build your own tale based on this extraordinary collection.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6.
