ADULT MANGA: Actually all the material on this site is adult. The term “adult” in this context means the audience to whom the manga is directed. In Japan, and elsewhere in the world, the manga is aimed at adult homophiles, primarily males in their 20s to 90s or beyond that latter age. The comics frequently contain BDSM, or violent sex. The artists, mangaka, are exclusively male and most publish through the G-Men publishing house.
YAOI MANGA: Originally these comics had a young teen female audience in Japan. The artists, mangaka, were young or middle-aged females. The audience even extended to the pre-teen years. But the focus was on boy-boy love and boy-boy sex. The boys are usually bishonen, beautiful boys. Though the sex is frequent and explicit, the privates are usually suggested rather than drawn explicitly. YAOI manga caught on in the west as a sort of cult fandom rather than a widespread fad. The western audience seems to be primarily female but in the 20+ year old age groups. Some young homophile males also seem to appreciate YAOI but mainstream homophiledom does not seem very interested. English language YAOI are now available through north American distributor. These English versions are usually translated from previously Japanese manga.
